MultiLink™ Sets the New Standard
Avidyne's new MultiLink™ capability allows the operation of Avidyne's Narrowcast and XM's Broadcast weather individually or together as complementary systems. Avidyne is the only company to offer certified multiple, complementary satellite datalink capabilities, and it is available exclusively on the FlightMax EX500 and Ex5000 MFDs.
Avidyne’s MultiLink customers have the ability to receive the faster update rates of graphical weather products over the XM broadcast system and the lower-cost, two-way communication capability of the narrowcast system which allows for such features as air-to-ground messaging and position reporting.
FlightMax customers can choose XM Broadcast datalink, Narrowcast Two-Way datalink , or Avidyne’s exclusive MultiLink™ capability which combines the benefits of Broadcast and Narrowcast.

The FlightMax EX500 interfaces with the Heads Up Technology (www.heads-up.com) XMD-076 XM Datalink Receiver for high-speed XM broadcast weather. Click here to view the XM Service Plans for FlightMax MFDs.
The addition of XM Satellite Weather will also provide access to lightning data from the National Lightning Detection Network® while operating over the continental United States (CONUS). This is a new capability on FlightMax systems and provides the unique ability to configure an aircraft with ground-based lightning detection, airborne lightning detection, or a combination of ground and airborne lightning detection ability.

Comprehensive Jeppesen NavData™ and an expansive North American obstacle database provide an unparalleled view of your flight environment.
Full overlay capability allows you to add or remove traffic, Stormscope, and radar, with 180-degree forward view and 360-degree center view maps.
Curved Paths & CMax™ Approach Charts
The FlightMaxEX500’s large display shows easy-to-see curved flight path segments such as DME arcs, holding patterns and procedure turns, overlaid with traffic, terrain, weather, airports and runway diagrams. In addition, Avidyne's CMax™ Electronic Approach Charts allows you to view all available procedures and airport diagrams in the Jeppesen database, with an overlay of the flight plan and aircraft position, taking the guess work out of shooting instrument approaches.

Important Note: Jeppesen Approach Plates expire every two weeks. Ten weeks after the expiration date, CMax will be unable to display the out-dated charts, so it is important to keep your Jeppesen/CMax subscription up to date.

With the FlightMax EX500’s “map-centric” operation, you can display your moving map with radar or with datalink weather. And special-use airspace. And traffic. And terrain. And lightning. Without ever leaving the map page. It’s the only display that provides the complete picture and it’s the easiest to use.
All Special-Use and Class Airspace boundaries are clearly depicted on the map, along with available Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) which are updated via datalink.

The FlightMax EX500’s high-resolution display allows you to easily see your flight plan and display weather all along your route. Having the complete picture on your map display gives you the ability to avoid weather and stay clear of restricted airspaces, saving you time and fuel.
The FlightMax EX500 has a complete terrain and water base map, as well as a North American database containing towers and other obstacles greater than 200’ AGL, providing unsurpassed depiction of terrain hazards. Obstacles can be displayed with MSL altitude labels, and Avidyne’s exclusive terrain
The Trip page provides supplemental information about your route of flight including a list of all remaining waypoints in the active flight plan, with distances and times for each leg. Graphical METARs for all reporting airports are also in the list, which can help you in determining an alternate airport in the event of inclement weather or an emergency situation. Textual METARs are also available for each reporting airport.
FlightMax provides plain text translation of each METAR, which contains a mini-weather report for that reporting point. It decodes and displays ceiling, visibility, wind speed/direction, temperature/dew point, barometric setting. On the map page, METARs are represented by color coded flags which indicate as follows:
